The Righteous Ember

Drekk rubbed his eyes as he reached for his mug. "I heard Herran caused another accident in the east lab this morning."

"Well, new power cells are always hazardous." Alyeh nibbled on the tip of his quill. "I've never heard her complain about her golem running out of power though. Why make a new one?"

"It's not for her golem. She's trying to imbue crystals with the Righteous Fire."

Alyeh stopped his nibbling. "Guardian might in a crystal? No wonder it exploded. I suppose we should count ourselves lucky that no one was hurt. But seriously, is it me, or is she always working."

"You know, I asked her about that once." Drekk hopped off of his seat and meandered over to the scholars' private ale tankard. "She told me that if she stops working, her mind wanders. She says she's scared of when that happens."

"Why?"

"You know her past, I assume?"

"Hard not to when she shows up for her Priory initiation with the Arcane Eye on her scent." Alyeh accepted a small cup from Drekk before the asura filled his mug and sat down. "You think she thinks of home?"

"And everything that happened. It can't sit forever, Alyeh, and personally, I'd rather be anywhere but Rata Sum when she makes her return." The asura swirled the hearty brown drink, watching the foam rock. "It will be bloody."

"You know she'd skewer your head if she ever caught you talking like that."

"Why do you think I avoid it? It's your fault for fishing up all these records." Drekk shot his partner a glance. "Honestly. The Destiny's Edge files? What are you even looking for in all of that?"

"Can't say, Drekk." Alyeh seemed to scan Drekk and the page at the same time. "But there's something afoot. I can feel it."

I imagine anyone who has played through chapter 3 of the asura story will have an idea of what I'm talking about. Suffice to say, Herran does not take slights lightly.

I was surprised when I first created Herran. Although I ended up really liking the asura, I was not big on the guardian class, so I figured she'd be a very secondary character to my norn, my elementalist, and my sylvari. Instead, she because a star. I suppose her brash behavior made her easy to "write" a story around.
