I'll come back for you by Esuka I'll come back for you by Esuka
I have been drawing some sad ponies lately. Lousy mood, I guess. This one was fun, but not particularly easy. Background was redone 2-3 times.

I'm not entirely sure where I stand on Nightmare Moon. I do think she and Luna are the same person if not the same mind, as internal conflict is always so much more interesting than external. It does seem to me, however, that there is some distinction between the two, if only in that Luna might regret where Nightmare Moon would hate. Here, have some mood music: [link]

Done in PS CS4
MLP: FiM (c) hasbro and Lauren Faust etc.

Lot of people forget that Luna wasn't banished. Nightmare Moon was banished. If Nightmare released Luna then Luna would return to Equrestria.

Only Celestia DIDN'T come for Luna.
She didn't even try.

What could she have done? The Elements of Hamony banished Nightmare Moon, and thus Luna, inside the moon. She would then lose connection with the Elements as she was no longer in harmony with Luna, their friendship broken. The Elements of Harmony only when there is friendship and harmony between those that wield them... it was impressive Celestia was able to use them all by herself even once.

Don't worry about that, if fanon was canon the times in Equestria 1000 years ago would be super rough.

Though in defense of the art I would argue that waiting 1000 years for Nightmare Moon's return, watching and preparing new bearers of the Elements could be consisered in keeping the promise made.

Though I admit, it could have perhaps been worded differently to give the intended feel more strongly.

I watch the show.
Celestia's history books cover her sisters banishment in a single sentence.
Just before Luna's banishment Celestia didn't even try to reason with her.

Then there's the IDW comics, which proved that Nightmare-ification can be reversed by conventional means.

Also your wrong completely on the "Celestia didn't even try to reason with her" as th pilot said Celestia did try to reason with her sister. What you posted was a false statement.

It would have been a false statement before the Season 4 premier.
During the Season 4 opener we see the extent of Celestia's "reasoning" with he sister.

Which equated to: "Luna do your job"

The problem is Luna was not in control anymore, and after being shot down Celestia realized this so she used the one power she knew that could save Luna. Celestia had no control over what the Elements of Harmony would do, heck I would argue the wielders of the elements rarely are able to use them knowing exactly what they would do.

Celestia wanted to save her sister, she alone could not save her and so she used that would she knew would be able to help Luna. Lauren Faust herself said that Celestia did all she could, and as she is the creator of Equestria I would argue she is correct over your own perception of the situation.

One of my headcanons is Woona getting banished for just about everything, which the Elements of Harmony cruelly picked up on and designated banishment as the solution that would be the appropriate punishment for Luna.

"Banished for just about everthing"... what do you mean?

Luna's 'crime' was that she disrupted the balance and allowed herself to become Nightmare Moon. She choose, though manipulated, to let herself be taken over by a dark entity from the moon. A force of evil that would bring harm and even death into Equestria... and usher in an era of evil.

How or why would she be banished for "everything"?

P.S. I do see Luna in many ways a victim, as I do for Celestia. A mare used in her time of weakness and insecurity, deceived by one seeking to control her and gain.

I hope you have reevaluated your stance since the two part episode Princess Twilight Sparkle. It clearly shows Celestia trying to reason Nightmare Moon and reach her sister yet meeting with failure. With the threat of her own life and that of her subjects, as eternal night would kill if not great harm everpony, Celestia had to relectantly make use of the EoH... even with tears in her eyes as she did.

Also just because Rarity's friends could reach her by talking does not mean Celestia would be able to reach Luna. Based on what was shown in the flashbacks Celestia could not reason with her sister Luna as Nightmare Moon had too strong of a hold.

Celestia's "reasoning" was simply telling her sister to do her job, Celestia was completely oblivious of her sister's affliction.

We'll never know if Nightmare Moon had too strong a hold because Celestia banished her sister in about 30 seconds time. The difference between the two Nightmare Moon's is that during one's existence somepony made an attempt.

Celestia made an attempt. You may argue it wasn't a very good one but the fact remains that she officially did try reasoning with her sister... and she failed.

Keep in mind this is Princess Luna who was possessed and corrupted by the Nightmare entity, not Rarity. There is a large power difference between these two characters, one being an alicorn that controls the Moon and the other a dressmaker.

Also, do not forget that they had no choice but to try and reach Rarity as Twilight and friends could not use the Elements of Harmony without the Element of Generosity. That and they are two different mediums of entertainments. One things I admit has frustrated me is how a story must be tied up in one episode, maybe two if your lucky. The comics can have a whole arc of comics for a more detailed story.

Heck, I am not convinced of Discord' conversion to being 'good' and if it is real it was far too quick... as well as unbelievable. After seeing Three is a Crowd I now believe my once favorite villian is a joke, pathetic and unintimidating.

The tv show so does not do a perfect job on showing what it wants, so I say take what is shown as well as what is intended. Whether you like it or not, whether you disagree or not, Celestia did try reasoning with her sister and failed to reach her. The fact is she had no choice but to use the Elements, because if she did not only would her subjects be at risk of harm but as Lauren Faust said an era of evil would come with Nightmare Moon's rule.

Celestia was young, she had (has) so many responsibilities it only makes sense that she may not have noticed the struggles her sister was going through, especially if Luna kept her troubles to herself. That and keep in mind Luna was being manipulated by an evil force, a darkness from the moon that very well may have convinced her not to say anything to Celestia or have her do that which would confuse what the real problem was from her older sister.

Whether or not she physically aged, that is still 1000 years less maturity.

I admit it annoyed me they had Celestia and Luna look the same as they do now, as they are shown to be younger in the story, but youth of experiance should still be considered.

I'll take that based on your argument about what the show has time for. However the last paragraph regarding how young Celestia was irks me because in the show she seemed no different at all 1000 years ago.

Luna was the only thing that seemed to be appropriate for the time period.

"Celestia's history books cover her sisters banishment in a single sentence."

Well, what did you expect ? It's obviously a very sore subject for Ceelstia.

"Just before Luna's banishment Celestia didn't even try to reason with her."

The show doesn't say that.

"Then there's the IDW comics, which proved that Nightmare-ification can be reversed by conventional means."

IDW ? I don't know that. What does IDW stands for ? Is it officially canon ?

"Well, what did you expect ? It's obviously a very sore subject for Celstia."

That gross example of revisionist history not only make Luna look like a spoiled brat, but it results in no one knowing who Luna is on multiple occasions and Luna having to deal with the Population fearing her. Nightmare Moon was defeated but the stigma that led to Nightmare Moon's rise is still there.

"The show doesn't say that."

It demonstrated that.
Celestia's reaction to Luna having issue was "Hey bit** do your job."

"IDW ? I don't know that. What does IDW stands for ? Is it officially canon ?"

IDW is a comic company that makes canon MLP comics.

"So do I."

Sure. But I watch it for fun. I don't want to watch it to pick details like Sherlock Holmes and doctor Watson pick clues.

And as the power of the elements of harmony surged forth from Celestia, It would seem she would get say A final goodbye to her sister as the visage of nightmare moon seemed to peel back revealing the young princess of the moon.
"Celestia, Please forgive me. This is all my fault. I let my jealousy get the better of me." As Luna cried out with tears in her eyes. Celetia could only respond with tears in her eyes as well. "Luna I don't blame you. We will be together again, I swear." With that they gave each other a sad smile as tears streamed down their faces. Luna cried out as nightmare moon seemed to regain control and yelled out, "I shall return celestia. I will rule all of equestrian." Celestia looked into her eyes and yelled out, " I'll be waiting." with a fierce glare. And so nightmare moon and luna were sent to the moon for who knows how long leaving Celestia alone to rule her kingdom by herself.

Awsome art work by the way. very good.

Very nice :)

The only part I would recommend changing is "sent to the moon" to "sealed inside the moon" as the fact is Nightmare Moon was banished in the moon not on it.
